Subway CRASH: Customer Traffic Plunging At Sandwich Chain

The behemoth sandwich chain Subway may be headed for an epic crash.

According to the New York Post, the home of the foot long has seen “customer traffic plummet a whopping 25% over the past five years amid fierce price competition and a slew of scandals that have battered its image.”

A memo sent to franchisees on November 30 revealed that “Subway’s owners promised $25 million to boost marketing this spring for the company’s 44,000 locations and to bring back a limited-time, $4.99 footlong sandwich promotion.”

Unlike retail chains, fast food will likely not see the same fallout produced by the surge in online shopping. However, they do face competition in changing cultural trends that favor healthier, local, more natural foods. Though Subway has largely weathered that trend by branding itself as the bargain sandwich shop, their main competitor, McDonald’s with their dollar menu, has moved in on their territory.
