What looked like a landslide victory for British Prime Minister Theresa May’s Conservatives has turned into a single-digit lead with less than three weeks to go before the general election.
May’s comfortable 18-point lead has been cut in half over the past week, according to a YouGov/Sunday Times poll released Saturday. The Conservatives stand at 44 percent, down five points from the week before, while the Labour Party gained four points to reach 35 percent.

The Conservatives released their election manifesto Thursday with a number of policy changes for the elderly — the party’s core supporters. The manifesto would restrict the currently universal winter fuel payment for older people and re-arrange the costs of caring for them.
Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said the manifesto would create a “war between generations” if implemented.
May tried to remind her supporters Saturday that the future of Brexit is in jeopardy if she loses the election.
“The cold hard fact is that if I lose just six seats I will lose this election, and Jeremy Corbyn will be sitting down to negotiate with the presidents, prime ministers and chancellors of Europe,” May said on her Facebook page Saturday. “For anyone with any doubts about the importance of this election, the events of the past week should have put them to rest. With the publication of the Labour Party’s manifesto on Tuesday, and the launch of my own plan on Thursday, it is clearer than ever just how much is at stake.”
