‘Piss Christ’ To Be Featured Alongside Trump Portrait At Houston Art Museum
A four-month exhibition at the Station Museum of Contemporary Art in Houston, Texas will feature artist Andres Serrano’s notorious photograph “Piss Christ” alongside a jumbo portrait of President Donald Trump.
Both images — part of Serrano’s “Torture” series — will appear at the privately-owned museum from June 3 to October 8, according to The Art Newspaper.
“Piss Christ” is an image Serrano created in 1987. It features a plastic figurine of Jesus Christ hanging on a cross and submerged in a yellow liquid. Serrano claims the yellow liquid his very own urine.

For his “Piss Christ” efforts, Serrano won a $15,000 award sponsored in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, a federally-funded agency.
A print of “Piss Christ” eventually sold for $277,000.
On Palm Sunday in 2011, angry French Catholics took hammers to another print in the southern city of Avignon.
Serrano’s photographs frequently involve human discharge and other bodily fluids. In addition to urine, he has claimed to work with feces, menstrual blood and human breast milk.
The “Torture” series which will be on display in Houston features photographs of over 40 volunteers being humiliated in various ways.
Another photo on display will be “Black Supper,” a 1990 Serrano snapshot of statues of Christ and some apostles spray-painted black and submerged underwater.
The Station Museum of Contemporary Art describes itself as “an exhibition forum for local, national, and international artists, with an emphasis on fine arts that reflects the cultural diversity of Houston’s communities.”
Serrano has struggled to remain relevant in recent years. In 2015, right around Easter, The New York Times magazine sent him to take photographs of shaggy, show-worthy Angora rabbits at the National Angora Show held inside a barn in Palmyra, N.Y.
