‘Patriots Day’ Review: An Exciting Plea Not To Blame Obama for Domestic Terror

For me, the difference between a good movie and a not-so good movie comes down to one very basic element. Does the story cast a spell and hold it? That is all I ask, which is why I equally enjoy “Road House ” and “Citizen Kane.” That doesn’t mean I place both on the same pedestal. What I am saying, though, is that when it comes to the storyteller’s Top Job of transporting me to a different place and time, a place where for a couple hours the stresses and frustrations of the Real World no longer exist, both Patrick Swayze and Orson Welles hit the only mark that counts, and do so with equal finesse and skill.

I should add, because as you read this you will wonder, that this perfectly reasonable standard of mine also applies to political films. Although Oliver Stone is wrong about everything, he is without question the greatest director of the nineties. – READ MORE
