Just over a week ago, the NFL regular season began with several teams engaging in protests inspired by Colin Kaepernick’s decision to sit out the national anthem “until the flag represented all Americans equally.”
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell spoke to NBC’s Matt Lauer at the time, explaining that he would be supporting the players as they engaged in this protest:
“Our history is that we play a role in society – an important one. We understand that. We’re careful about that…I support our players speaking out on issues that they think need to be changed in our society. We don’t live in a perfect society.
