Nancy Pelosi Inks Deal To Stay Speaker — But Only Until 2022

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has reportedly inked a deal to stay Speaker of the House when the Democrats take over the House of Representatives in January, but the agreement comes with a caveat: she’ll have to abdicate her position as Democratic majority leader by 2022.

Pelosi agreed to the deal to placate “renegade Democrats,” according to Yahoo News, who wanted fresher, younger faces in leadership — not the 78-year-old former Speaker of the House, who already served a term as speaker from 2007 until 2011.

Those same “renegade Democrats” have been dogging Pelosi for weeks, threatening to derail what Pelosi believed to be a done deal, returning to her top position when Democrats retake the House in January. A small group even penned an open letter to the former speaker, threatening to vote against her in Democratic leadership elections if unnamed concessions were not made.

Pelosi eventually defeated the insurgency, inking a deal with at least one potential challenger, Rep. Marcia Fudge (D-OH), to put Fudge in a leadership position under the speaker if Fudge agreed to pull out of any early contests. – READ MORE
