Missouri’s Largest Newspapers Have A Message For State Senator Who Wished For Trump Assassination

The two largest newspapers in Missouri called for state Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal to resign over her comments hoping that someone assassinates President Donald Trump.

The Kansas City Star and St. Louis Post-Dispatch both published editorials on Monday calling for Chappelle-Nadal to resign after she apologized publicly on Sunday for writing on Facebook, “I hope Trump is assassinated.”

Missouri’s largest newspaper, The Kansas City Star, expressed its views in a very blunt manner.

“This isn’t complicated,” The Kansas City Star, wrote. “Missouri state Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal has to go. The Democrat from University City must do the right thing and resign her office immediately for her incendiary Facebook post expressing hope that President Donald Trump would be assassinated.”

The second largest newspaper in Missouri — Chappelle-Nadal’s hometown newspaper, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch — expressed the same sentiments.

“There are times when unequivocal contrition should be enough to clear the air and move on,” the St. Louis Post-Dispatch wrote. “This, sadly, is not one of those times.”

Chappelle-Nadal did apologize for her outrageous remarks, albeit four days after making them, in a statement on Sunday.

“I made a mistake,” Chappelle-Nadal said. “President Trump, I apologize to you and your family.”

Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens called on the state senate to remove her from office if she refuses to resign.

“Senator Chappelle-Nadal said she hopes the President is killed. Republicans and Democrats have called on her to resign,” Greitens wrote. “Her response: ‘Hell no.’ Last night, in an interview, she refused to apologize — twice. If she will not resign, the Senate can vote to remove her. I believe they should.”
