Mike Bloomberg Wants To Become The Next Bill Clinton

Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has plans to fill the philanthropic space left by the the Clinton Global Initiative by hosting a gathering of the world’s most powerful people in New York.

The Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Global Business Forum (GBF) will be held in New York during the UN General Assembly in September. The Forum will bring together a large collection of world and corporate leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and Apple CEO Tim Cook “to discuss opportunities for advancing trade and economic growth, and the related societal challenges – from climate change to workplace automation to terrorism.”

The Forum was inspired by the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI), a global philanthropic network that also hosted a forum in New York during the UN General Assembly.

The GBF has seized upon the template established by the CGI’s annual meeting by bringing the most politically powerful people together with heads of industry to address problematic social, political and economic trends.

The corporate and political leaders gathered in New York will discuss the origins and manifestations of the political upheaval sweeping across Europe and the U.S. in an attempt to “construct a new multilateral economic order to solve challenges that led to the unraveling of so many twentieth-century assumptions and institutions.”

“After a year of profound political shocks to the post-World War II economic order, in which globalization itself has been under siege, how do business leaders chart a clear path forward?” the GBF website reads.

In August 2016, after questions emerged about the relationship between the Clinton foundation and Hillary’s political influence, Bill announced the foundation was discontinuing their annual forum in an open letter.

“The commitment model has been adopted by other forums and I hope that more will do so, or that new organizations will arise to do this work,” the letter reads.
