A new poll from the Environics Institute in Toronto shows that the overall Canadian opinion of the United States has dropped to a 35-year low. It’s not the fact that American teams have been beating them in their own sport for 24 years straight or that native son Ryan Gosling fled the cold winters of Ontario for sunny Hollywood.
With just 44% of Canadians polled holding a favorable view of the United States, that number now sits at its lowest point since the statistic was first tracked in 1982. In contrast, 68% of Canadians held a favorable view of the United States in the lead up to former President Barack Obama’s 2012 re-election.
