The Islamic State claimed credit for a suicide bomb attack on a Shiite mosque in Afghanistan’s capital on Monday that killed more than two dozen people and injured dozens more.
The Amaq News Agency, an ISIS-linked media organization, said a militant for the Sunni terror group detonated the explosives inside the mosque in Kabul towards the end of a prayer ceremony to commemorate Imam Hussein, the Prophet Muhammad’s grandson and one of Shiite Islam’s 12 imams, or saints.
