Hispanic Group Uses Soros Cash To Blast Trump & GOP

An advocacy group with ties to liberal billionaire George Soros targeted Republican lawmakers in Colorado for voting to repeal a contentious climate regulation, a conservative group reported Monday.

A group that has received nearly $5.9 million in funding from Soros’ Foundation to Promote Open Society financially propped up the Hispanic Access Foundation’s (HAF) attempt to target opponents of President Barack Obama’s methane rule, according to a review of Internal Revenue Service documents.

HAF used money from the New Venture Fund to launch a series of ads against three prominent senators, Politico reported Monday. The Soros-funded group targeted Republican Sens. Cory Gardner of Colorado, Jeff Flake of Arizona, and Dean Heller of Nevada for their votes challenging a rule aimed at curbing methane emissions on public lands.

The Senate voted 51 to 49 in favor of the Interior Department rule, with Arizona Republican John McCain surprisingly casting the deciding vote to support the Obama administration regulation.

If McCain had voted against the methane rule, the Senate would have been deadlocked and Vice President Mike Pence would have had to cast a tie-breaking vote.

HAF’s print ad against Gardner says, “Senator Cory Gardner put oil & gas companies ahead of Colorado’s communities.” HAF has not responded to reporters’ requests for comment.

“Senator Cory Gardner voted to OVERTURN a federal rule and allow oil companies to pollute our air and waste hundreds of millions of dollars of taxpayer-owned natural gas,” the ad says.

IRS documents revealed money focused on supporting environmental programs, as well as launching other activist groups within the Latino community. The Foundation to Promote Open Society shoveled 22 separate grants directly to HAF through New Venture Fund.

HAF sent a letter to Flake and Heller, among others, in February urging them to oppose the use of the Congressional Review Act to overturn the “venting and flaring” rule issued in the waning days of the Obama administration. This is not the first time the liberal financier has worked to thwart President Donald Trump’s environmental policies.

Another Soros-funded group, Center for Media and Democracy (CMD), filed a lawsuit in February accusing then-Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt of failing to release emails the group believes could show the Republican is in cahoots with various energy companies.

CMD, which bills itself as a nonpartisan journalism outfit, counts the Rockefeller Family Foundation and Soros’s Open Society Foundations among its donors. It has also received money from progressive financier, Tides Foundation, which gave the group more than $160,000 in 2011 for research purposes.
