Franken in 2010: ‘Isn’t There a Certain Age When the (Sexual Assault) Issue Goes Away?’

Al Franken was accused of sexual harassment by a second woman on Monday, who alleged that Franken grabbed her behind while they took a picture together in Minnesota in August 2010.

An event from just days before that incident, though, indicates that Franken may not have understood the gravity of sexual assault.

According to the Worthington Daily Globe, Franken met with a group of seniors’ advocates in Slayton, Minnesota. One official explained to Franken that “seniors with prison or sexual abuse backgrounds are getting harder to place” in the state.

Franken responded by asking if the sexual assault issue “goes away” at a certain age, according to the Daily Globe.

“There are long-term solutions, such as early childhood education and parenting,” Franken offered. “And isn’t there a certain age when the (sexual assault) issue goes away?”
