Feds Investigate Criminal Activity At Gov’t-Run Utility That Racked Up $6.8 Million In Potential Credit Card Fraud

Federal investigators are in the midst of a criminal probe into potential criminal activity among employees at a government-run utility, according to a letter obtained by lawmakers.

The Energy Department inspector general’s office told Arizona Republican Sens. John McCain and Jeff Flake their audit of the Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) has been put on hold until they have taken corrective actions to stop more fraudulent activity from happening.

Acting IG Rickey Hass told lawmakers there’s an ongoing criminal investigation into WAPA’s Desert Southwest (DSW) branch that’s steeped in potential fraudulent credit card purchases.
