The Federal Communication Commission announced in a Tuesday statement that there will be no fine against Stephen Colbert, following a review of the late-night host’s May 1 show that prompted “thousands” of complaints.
Colbert opened his show with a nearly two-minute monologue blasting President Donald Trump. Near the end, he used a homophobic slur to refer to Trump, also implying that he was engaged in a sex act with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“In fact, the only thing your mouth is good for is being Vladimir Putin’s cock holster,” Colbert said.
The host continued with a pun-ridden tirade.
“Mr. President, I love your presidency, I call it ‘Disgrace The Nation.’ You’re not the POTUS, you’re the ‘gloat-us.’ You’re the glutton with the button. You’re a regular ‘Gorge Washington.’ You’re the ‘presi-dunce,’ but you’re turning into a real ‘prick-tator.;’”
The FCC said it followed “standard operating procedure” in reviewing the heavily-criticized program but found “nothing actionable under FCC rules,” according to Variety.
Colbert refused to apologize for his rant against Trump, saying, “He, I believe, can take care of himself. I have jokes; he has the launch codes, so it’s a fair fight.”
Trump later swung back at the late-night host, calling him a “no-talent guy.”
