Eastern European countries are unhappy with European Union plans for a joint defensive force,according to a report in the Times.

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on Wednesday set out plans for a pan-European defensive force with a central command, meant to combat terrorism. The plan was leaked ahead of time in the press. – READ MORE

    The EU has, by design, no stable configuration except, ultimately, as a unitary state. The formation of an army is one more step on that road. One definition of a ‘state’, after all, is ‘that entity which reserves to itself the use of violence’. This new army wouldn’t be any good at fighting, of course, but it might become a useful tool for repression.
