(Daily Caller) Former Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton did very well in a hypothetical match up against current New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, according to a Quinnipiac poll published Wednesday.
Clinton easily vanquished the current mayor with 49 percent of the vote, compared to just 30 percent who supported de Blasio. The poll only included Clinton and de Blasio, and factored in Clinton running as an independent. New York City will elect a new mayor in November 2017.
“New Yorkers aren’t in love with Mayor Bill de Blasio, but they seem to like him better than other possible choices — except Hillary Clinton, who probably is an impossible choice,” said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll. “None of the possible contenders has made any real noise or spent any money, so this race still could get interesting.”
Clinton served as senator from the state of New York from 2001 through 2009, and served as secrtary of state under President Barack Obama from 2009 through 2013. De Blasio hosted several fundraisers for Clinton during the course of the campaign, and spoke at local rallies in support of Clinton, although their interactions were less than warm.
The poll started Jan. 11 and concluded Jan. 17, and included 1,138 registered voters from the New York City voting district. The poll carried a margin of error of 2.9 percentage points in either direction.
