Steve Stephens, the Cleveland man who executed a 74-year-old man in broad daylight on Sunday and posted a video of it to Facebook, killed himself following a police chase in Pennsylvania on Monday.

“Steve Stephens was spotted this morning by PSP members in Erie County. After a brief pursuit, Stephens shot and killed himself,” Pennsylvania state police said in a statement on Twitter.

Stephens had been on the run since Sunday, when he fatally shot Robert Godwin Sr. and posted video of the killing online. In a video statement prior to shooting Godwin Sr., Stephens complained about his ex-girlfriend. He also said he was in deep debt because of a gambling addiction.

In videos and Facebook posts, Stephens claimed to have killed as many as 15 people. But investigators believe there are not other victims.

Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams said during a press conference on Monday that Stephens was spotted by a tipster in a McDonald’s parking lot near Erie. As officers responded, Stephens fled in the vehicle.

“As officers approached that vehicle, Steve Stephens took his own life,” Williams said.
