After news broke Wednesday that ESPN would be cutting around 100 people, mostly on-air personalities, it wasn’t long before people pointed to the sports network’s continual detours into liberal politics as a probable cause.
ESPN announced its latest round of layoffs on Wednesday morning — 100 employees are expected to lose their jobs, including dozens of on-air personalities and writers whom sports fans may recognize. This comes amidst a dwindling subscriber base that has seen ESPN lose 12 million subscribers in just the six years.
“Worth should outshine color.” According to Business Insider, “that simple phrase is the basis for Nike’s new campaign that speaks up for equality. The Equality campaign encourages people to take the fairness and respect they see on the court, pitch, playing field and other sporting venues to translate them off the field.”

The sports network’s layoffs have reportedly been coming for weeks, but the number of on-air anchors, radio hosts and writers being laid off is larger than originally expected. The network plans to notify all those being laid off today, if possible.
