Customs and Border Protection officers saw a 5 percent decrease from March to April in the number of people deemed inadmissible and apprehended at the southern border and a 68 percent drop compared to last year, according to new data released Tuesday.

Border agents apprehended 11,129 people and declared 4,651 others inadmissible, bringing the total to 15,780 people. That number is down from 48,500 last April, when numbers tend to begin spiking due to warmer weather for the trek from Central America to the U.S.
